Arrival in Bhutan | Paro to Thimphu
Upon arrival at Paro International Airport, guests will be warmly welcomed by your Bhutanese guide and driver. The flight into Bhutan is considered one of the most spectacular mountain flights in the world, offering breathtaking views of the Himalayas including Mount Everest on clear days. After immigration formalities, begin your scenic drive to Thimphu, the capital city of Bhutan. The journey follows beautiful river valleys, traditional villages, prayer flags, and peaceful Himalayan landscapes. In the evening, enjoy a relaxing walk around Thimphu city and experience Bhutan’s unique blend of tradition and modern life. Sightseeing Highlights Memorial Chorten — Built in memory of the Third King of Bhutan, this sacred stupa is one of the most important religious landmarks in the country where locals gather daily for prayers and meditation. Thimphu Sightseeing & Drive to Punakha
After breakfast, explore the cultural highlights of Thimphu before driving to the beautiful Punakha Valley. Sightseeing Highlights Buddha Dordenma — One of the largest sitting Buddha statues in the world overlooking Thimphu Valley. The statue symbolizes peace and prosperity and offers stunning panoramic views of the capital. Traditional Handmade Paper Factory — Discover the ancient Bhutanese art of handmade paper production using traditional methods passed down through generations. Later, drive to Punakha via Dochula Pass (3,100m). On clear days, the pass offers spectacular panoramic views of the eastern Himalayas. (Dochula Pass) The pass is famous for its 108 memorial stupas built in honor of Bhutanese soldiers and is one of the most scenic mountain passes in Bhutan. Arrive in Punakha, the ancient capital of Bhutan known for its warm climate and fertile valleys. Punakha Exploration & Drive to Paro
After breakfast, visit the historical and cultural landmarks of Punakha before returning to Paro. Sightseeing Highlights Punakha Dzong — Considered the most beautiful fortress in Bhutan, Punakha Dzong sits majestically between the Pho Chhu and Mo Chhu rivers. Built in 1637, it played an important role in Bhutanese history and still serves as an important religious center. Punakha Suspension Bridge — One of the longest suspension bridges in Bhutan decorated with colorful prayer flags and offering beautiful river and valley views. Chimi Lhakhang — Also known as the “Temple of Fertility,” this sacred monastery is associated with the famous Buddhist saint Drukpa Kunley, known as the Divine Madman. Enjoy a traditional Bhutanese farmhouse lunch experience before driving back to Paro. In the evening, guests may enjoy a traditional Bhutanese hot stone bath or cultural dinner program. Tiger’s Nest Monastery Hike
Today is one of the highlights of the Bhutan journey. After breakfast, hike to the iconic Taktsang Monastery, famously known as Tiger’s Nest Monastery. Perched dramatically on a cliffside 900 meters above the Paro Valley, this sacred monastery is one of the most important pilgrimage sites in the Himalayan Buddhist world. According to legend, Guru Rinpoche flew to this location on the back of a tigress and meditated here in the 8th century, bringing Buddhism to Bhutan. The hike offers beautiful forest trails, mountain scenery, prayer flags, waterfalls, and unforgettable panoramic views. In the evening, enjoy a farewell Bhutanese cultural dinner with traditional dance performances and optional Bhutanese national dress experience for memorable photographs.
